you're killin' me smalls! :: a t-shirt

{Products, People, Places}

I couldn't help myself. I totally bought this shirt a couple weeks ago. I was checking my feed on Etsy, and saw that OhDierLiving added the above item... I clicked on it and smiled. I played a twenty second tug-of-war with myself regarding the impulsive purchase, where which impulse obviously won.

A) I LOVE 1993's The Sandlot, B) I've been in the market for some new comfy & easy Ts, and C) The listing did say "SALE", and it was only $20.

But, really, how could I not buy it?! Benny Rodriguez (Mike Vitar) coined the phrase you're killin' me smalls!, in the cult classic, The Sandlot. I was thirteen when that movie came out, and saw it three times in the theater. I may have even gone on my first double date to that movie! I will need my bestie from back then to confirm...

Brandis, didn't we go see this with Christopher Merry and Morgan?? {Morgan of course being your date & Chris mine.}

Parents and kids alike loved, and continue to LOVE, this movie! My dad used to say, "You're killin' me smalls!" to me, well, when I was killing him {Duh!}. I could go on and on, but for those of you who have no idea what I'm talking about, you can check out a few key scenes here, and see what I mean... everyone else knows what I mean.

So, in the movie, the main character is Scotty Smalls (Tom Guiry). He moves to town, and is fairly sheltered compared to the neighborhood boys he makes friends with. They teach him how to play baseball, chew tobacco, wear hats, eat s'mores, and about how to get into all sorts of trouble... which of course includes, pickling the beast.

Blah, blah, blah. You all know, all of that already; we've talked about how you already know. My deal is this... I love the movie {talked about that too}, but as funny as I think the coined phrase, you're killin' me smalls is, I don't really love the literal idea of it.

For me, this is a lesson in loosening up. True has seen the movie and loves it, too. He was about three when he watched it for the first time. I used the phrase on him sometime later, and he completely got it and laughed. So, we do it for fun. Just like my dad did it with me, for fun. Only, heaven forbid he EVER thinks that I think, that he is actually KILLING me! THIS is where loosening up comes in for me. Then it occurred to me all the different things one could be being killed with, and I instantly felt better...

You're killin' me smalls! via your...
  1. cuteness
  2. wiggles
  3. giggles
  4. smarty-pantness
  5. amazingness
  6. and especially in True's case, handsomeness
  7. fill in the blank
  8. fill in the blank
  9. fill in the blank
Anyway, being killed by way of one of the means listed above just seems okay. You know? What a great way to go, and SO much better than by being killed by someone's dumbness... which is what the phrase was created to imply. Although, even then, not so bad. I'm loos-en-ing-up, remember?

Aye, aye, aye.

Here are examples of 1 & 2 in Elle West's case...

All I wanted was a photo of us smiling {while holding still}, that would give the idea that I had the shirt on {so, that I could show you}. Well, she wiggled and resisted until all I could do was snap several and hope for the best. Then I saw the cuteness that she is; in her smile t-shirt {as if you'd have any choice when looking at her anyway}, and you might say, that I said, "You're killin' me smalls!"

Happiest Friday!!
